Recently I had a very hard time trying to help my friend with his mac. His machine is behind a router and port forwarding was a “different language†for him. To avoid the hassle I tried to do a reverse tunneling from the Terminal but that brought frustrations and loss of time…
Fortunately there are geniuses on the net like Mark Lentczner that developed Reverse Connection VNC client & servers
This will save you a lot of pain if you want to connect trough Firewalls, if your friend does not know which is his/her IP and many other obstacles that come involved in remote sessions. Follow the next steps and you will be doing reverse connects in no time:
1. If YOU are behind a router forward the port 5500 to your computer.
2. Download Mark Lentczner’s version of Chicken of the VNC (make sure you download the “built app&rdquo![]()
3. Unzip Chicken of the VNC to your Desktop
4. Double click Chicken of the VNC
5. Click Connection > Open Listener… > Start. Screenshot
6. Now again in you Mac Download Mark Lentczner’s version of OSXvnc (make sure you download the “built app&rdquo![]()
7. Send OSXvnc to HIM/HER
8. Have HIM/HER click “Connect to Client”, enter your IP address in the “Host” box, and click “Start Server”. Screenshot
9. Voila! Now you will be able to control HIS/HER machine from your own. “Stop Server†when finished.
